Peter Scupelli

Associate Professor, Chair of Design Studies

Peter Scupelli is an Associate Professor of Design and Director of the Learning Environments Lab at Carnegie Mellon University. He is Chair of Design Studies and co-founder of the Global Design Futures Network (GDFN). He was Visiting Professor at the Politecnico di Milano (2022–2024) and held the Nierenberg Professorship from 2019–2022.

Peter’s research focuses on learning environments and design futures, combining Design Thinking with Futures Thinking to align short- and long-term goals. He teaches courses including Environments Studio I, Futures, and Design Futures.

He completed his PhD at CMU’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute. His architecture degree is from the Università di Genova, and he holds a Master of Design from CMU’s School of Design.
