John Choi
Adjunct of Practice
John Choi is an interactive digital media artist and Adjunct of Practice in the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University, specializing in AR/VR/MR/XR, robotics, IoT, and real-time game development. With over 10 years of experience transforming napkin concepts into functional prototypes, he brings deep expertise in rapid prototyping, hardware hacking, game development, and teaching.
At CMU, John has collaborated with hundreds of students and dozens of faculty across departments including the School of Art, the School of Computer Science, the Robotics Institute, HCII, the Entertainment Technology Center, and the Tepper School of Business. He has also collaborated internationally with researchers from Waseda University (Tokyo) and INRIA (Paris) on conversational AI virtual human avatars.
As the School of Design’s resident Unity expert, John helps maintain and upgrade the Spatial Experience Lab (MM127) and teaches practical courses in building functional prototypes grounded in real-world creative industry experience. He currently serves at Schell Games, one of the largest full-service game design and development studios in the United States.
